Located in Delta, Colorado (see station location map), DeltaWeatherCam.com is a privately owned and operated not-for-profit local weather information site. The background photo in the site logo above was taken from the DWC location overlooking Delta. It exists as an integration of my interest in Amateur Radio (K6DYC), weather phenomenon and computers. The local weather data is received from a Davis Vantage Pro2 Plus Wireless weather station. The sensor array is located in a field southwest of my home and communicates with the display in my control room over a 902MHz wireless link with the help of a Davis VP2 Solar Powered WIreless Repeater.

Weather data is stored in the Davis console display and downloaded to multiple applications on a computer using the VirtualVP program. The data is processed by a combination of Ambient's Virtual Weather Station and Weather Display software. These programs not only connect a personal computer to a weather station, they also display, plot and store data for comprehensive monitoring and analysis, locally and on the Internet.

My local station forwards its near real-time data to a number of Internet sources for redistribution including Weather Underground, Personal Weather Stations (PWS), APRSWXNET, Citizen Weather Observation Program (CWOP), AWEKAS International Weather, and the Amateur Radio Emergency Service.

DeltaWeatherCam.com features two web cams. The most versatile is a Canon VB-C50iR network camera with exceptional pan, tilt and zoom capabilities, mounted in an all-weather enclosure (see photo to the right). The second is a Toshiba IK-WB11A Network Camera in wireless mode which has great low-light sensitivity. All live feeds, still photos and time-lapse video are processed by a combination of ImageSalsa and MovieSalsa software, which overlay the video and stills with graphics and weather data.

Audio forecasts and current conditions are created using 2nd Speech Center text to speech software from Zero2000.com to create MP3 files using voices from ATT Labs Natural Voices.

DWC freely shares web scripts and code for creation of time-lapse video, audio forecasts, semi-transparent overlay pop-up windows and mobile device detection.

This station was previously set up in Meeker, CO in Novenber of 2001, and was moved to Delta in October 2007. Historical data can be viewed at the history page, and is also archived using VWSql and VWSphp to store real-time data to a MySQL database. The SQL database archives can be accessed from the History and Custom Graphs page.

The Lightning Map is powered by a Boltek StormTracker PCI Lightning Detector. The raw data is interpreted and mapped on my weather PC and this site using Astrogenic Systems' NexStorm/StormVue software.
